Martin Gafinowitz, Neil Thomas and Baudouin de la Tour (right to left) commenced proceedings on day two of the iDAC 15 conference, each outlining details and discussing individually how they see technology driving the retail fuel business over the next decade. This was the first time these three industry leaders had ever appeared together at a major conference, an initiative which was described by one oil company delegate as being “absolutely fascinating”. Delegates on the first day had witnessed comprehensive discussions on fuel station design, branding and construction. The conference was summed up by Phil Lambeth, technology statesman from BP, who called for greater input from the industry in formulating technical solutions, proposing that international technical forums should be established for retailers to enable them to share safety and compliance issues, coordinate input to CEN standards and collaborate on technical guidance.
