It seemed like a perfect plan – take the erpecnews team on a ‘Grand Tour’ through Germany in a motorhome to visit
SGB, Brugg Pipe Systems and Elaflex and have a look under the bonnet of these fuel industry innovators. But extremely
busy schedules and some mechanical issues with the motorhome meant that ‘The Grand Tour’ faced serious
challenges in delivering the news on time for the July issue of erpecnews. All hope is not lost however and through the
power of the internet we have been able to not only catch-up on the latest news from SGB, Brugg and Elaflex but also
take a look at the route (thanks GoogleMaps) – all without leaving the office.
The three companies are located just 450
kilometres apart along a route from SGB’s
headquarters in Siegen, 90km east of Cologne
up to Elaflex’s Global HQ just outside
Hamburg. I have been reliably informed that
it is an area of outstanding natural beauty
and the few pin drops along the route on
GoogleMaps seem to support these claims.
So the e-Grand Tour, as it has now been
dubbed, begins with SGB, experts in leak
detection technology for over 55 years. Established
in 1962, the company invented
vacuum leak detectors for single skinned
tanks and today has more than 50 different
types of leak detectors with more than 100
variations, with several systems patented.
From their facility, SGB’s 40 employees
work across development, production and
distribution, as well as providing customer
service, advice and specialist solutions.
The erpecnews team caught up with SGB
at the recent UNITI expo in Stuttgart where
they were showcasing their latest fully electronic
vacuum leak detector - the VLXE with
digital display. Due to its partly explosion
proof equipment, the new system is specifically
suited for monitoring tanks and containments
with petrol leak protection lining
and is a unique solution for those thinking of
changing their monitoring system from liquid
to air. VLXE-SAB is equipped with 1 or
2 pumps as well as an explosion-protected
sensor per tank/pipe. In case of a vacuum
loss at any tank/pipe, an alarm is triggered
and indicated on a central display outside
and additionally separately inside for each
sensor. Each leak will be reliably indicated
regardless whether it is in the inner or outer
wall. And this before any stored or conveyed
liquid can enter and pollute the environment.
The latest innovation also features CPU controlled
pressure sensors and remote monitoring
with leak detection online diagnostics.
